What is the ECS Honors Society?
The ECS Honors Society is a student organization at UTD that was founded to support the
ECS Academic Honors Programs with social, service and educational activities for past, present and potential future members ECS Academic Honors Programs. The ECS Honors Society also participates in forums and coordinating meetings with faculty, administration and other student organizations to promote the opinions of the ECS Academic Honors Programs' students.
What is the difference between the ECS Honors Society and the CS/SE/EE/CE/TE Academic Honors Programs?
The
CS/SE/EE/CE/TE (ECS) Academic Honors Programs are department based programs that consist of special courses or course sections that provide more rigorous and interactive instruction to motivated students with potential graduation benefits. On the other hand, the ECS Honors Society is a student organization made up of honors alumni, honors eligible students and interested underclassmen. The ECS Honors Society provides networking opportunities to assist honors students with academic decisions. Finally, the society provides social and service activities for its members.
Who is eligible to join the ECS Honors Society?
- All freshmen and sophomores interested in becoming members of the ECS Academic Honors Programs when eligible.
- Juniors and seniors who participate in the ECS Academic Honors Program for their major.
- Alumni who participated in at least one ECS Academic Honors course as an undergraduate and still attend UTD.
How do I join the ECS Honors Society?
Soon we will create a form that you can submit via this website to join the ECS Honors Society. In the meantime, please send an email (from your UTD email address) to our email (look at Contact us at the bottom of the page) with the following information:
- Your name
- Your preferred contact email address
- Your major
- Your expected graduation date
- Your current classification (Freshman, Sophomore, ...)
- Have you already applied to an ECS Academic Honors Program
- If so, which honors courses have you already/are currently taken/taking?
- Are you in the Fast-Track Program?
An ECS Honors Society officer will contact you soon after your request.
What can the ECS Honors Society do for me?
The ECS Honors Society can provide you with social network of fellow honors students to assist you with your academic career. Other benefits of participating in the society include enrichment activities (research-like projects) in which you may participate.
How do I get involved?
There are many ways that you can become involved in our program. Here are a few.
- Promote the ECS Academic Honors Programs and the ECS Honors Society to your friends and classmates.
- Become an active member of the society and participate in our events. These events are ideal for enriching your education.
- We are always looking for ideas for future events so your opinion and assistance in coordinating a future event is welcome.
- Regularly check this website for event & meeting information.
- Once you have established yourself within the group you may request permission to add information to this website.
- Attend organization meetings.
- You may seek a leadership position as an officer of the organization.
Can I suggest a cool project?
Of course, just send an email to us (look at contact us at the bottom of the page) and attend a meeting where you can explain your project in more detail to our members. Some funding may be available for particularly desirable and educational projects. If your idea is selected, we expect your assistance in organizing the project.
